L-Carnitine

Carnitine or L-Carnitine is an amino acid found in red meat and dairy. As a nutritional supplement, it can aid weight loss by increasing fat metabolism by converting fatty acids into energy. A simplified explanation of how L-Carnitine works is by carrying fatty acids into the mitochondria of each cell, where they are metabolized for energy.

The mitochondria of each cell in our body can be considered the "furnaces" of a cell. The mitochondria is responsible for the production of energy for the cell, and for the body. L-Carnitine supplies the mitochondria with more fuel (fatty acids) to burn. As the mitochondria metabolizes the fatty acids, more energy is produced, which is how L-Carnitine enhances exercise endurance.

Carnitine also helps prevent muscle soreness after exercise and improve mental performance and exercise endurance. It also supports heart health and has been used to help treat angina.
